The Giants will be entertaining free agent WR Louis Murphy today. Why, you ask? Why not? Explore every option. Isn’t that the Jerry Reese way?

Murphy has always been fast (he was drafted by Oakland, who used to draft players solely based on 40 times, it seemed) but he hasn’t taken full advantage of his opportunities in the NFL. After his promising start with the Raiders (75 catches for 1,130 yards and 6 TDs in his first 2 seasons), he leveled out and was traded to Carolina, where he caught only 25 passes for 336 yards and 1 TD last year.
Always long on potential and short on production, the speedy Murphy managed just 25 catches for 336 yards and one touchdown with the Panthers last season. He’d be viewed as mere depth in New York, where Domenik Hixon and Ramses Barden are unrestricted free agents.
Hey, the Giants see something there. This could be another low-end signing that they hit big with. Who knows? He is a fairly big target at 6’2″, 200 and ran a 4.32 40 as a rookie. Murphy was the Raiders’ 4th round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Florida, where he played with Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin.
