John Fennelly , Executive Editor
Giants’ DE Jason Pierre-Paul, WR Victor Cruz and G Chris Snee have been named to the NFC Pro Bowl roster. It is the fourth time Snee has been selected and the first time for Cruz. JPP was selected to the game for the second consecutive season. He did not attend last year’s game as the Giants advanced to the Super Bowl.
Pierre-Paul (6.5 sacks) made it primarily on his reputation and sensational 2011 season. He, along with the rest of the Giants’ pass rush, have struggled mightily this season. He does have 12 tackles for losses, however. Teams guarded him differently in 2012, leading to a sharp reduction in sacks and tackles. He had 16.5 sacks last season.
Cruz received the most votes for an NFC wideout in the fan voting. He has 82 catches for 1,040 yards and 9 TDs. Cruz burst onto the scene as game-breaking player last year ,when he set a franchise record for receiving yardage. His salsa TD celebration dance has become a global sensation.
Snee has been plagued by various ailments and did not have as strong a season as he has had in the past. He is still formidable enough to be respected by fans and his peers. He, along with David Diehl, are the last remnants of the Giants’ longest-tenured offensive line unit.
The NFC-AFC Pro Bowl will be played Sunday, January 27 in Honolulu.
