Giants interested in LB Rey Maualuga

The Giants have remained relatively quiet during free agency thus far, but perhaps a new addition to its defense is on the horizon.

According to ESPN, the G-Men have expressed “some interest” in Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga.

Veteran middle linebacker Michael Boley was released at the start of the off-season, leaving the rumors swirl around potential fits, most of which centered around potential first-round draft picks Alec Ogletree of Georgia and Manti Te’o of Notre Dame.

The possible in-house solution — Chase Blackburn — has visited the Cowboys among other teams in recent weeks and is likely to take his talents elsewhere. The Giants did show interest in Jasper Brinkley, but the linebacker left New York without a deal in place.

Maualuga visited the Cardinals on Wednesday, but left Arizona without a contract. Other possible destinations include the Ravens, who now need to replace Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbee, and the Bengals.

Last season, the former USC Trojan had a career-high 60 tackles.
