The Giants scored big by signing up-and-coming TE Brandon Myers this past weekend and as Sam reported in the prior post, they may still be interested in drafting a TE this April. The variable in the Giants’ strategy is, and has been, the potential of second-year TE Adrien Robinson, who GM Jerry Reese dubbed “the JPP of tight ends” last year after the draft.

Robinson came into the NFL very raw and got off to slow start, missing rookie minicamp in order to graduate and then spending most of his rookie season playing catch-up. Most fans and pundits have written Robinson off, but Reese has indicated the Giants are still sky-high on the former Cincinnati Bearcat…

“We wished we could have gotten him in some games more last year, but it just didn’t work out that way for us to get him in some games,” Reese said of Robinson Monday in an interview on @SiriusXMNFL. . “But the guy is 280 pounds and ran 4.57 [40-yard dash] at his pro day, and we think he can develop into a terrific blocker. In practice, he flashed some things that were really like some ‘Wow’ things, so we’re expecting him to make a jump this season and get in there and get going and give contributions as our big blocking tight end. And he can catch the ball really nicely.”

The emergence of the TE as a weapon in the league has teams collecting them in droves. To win, you will need a vertical passing game. In order for your vertical passing game to click, you’ll need at least one pass-catching TE if not two. With Myers and Robinson the Giants could end up with the most productive duo they’ve ever had.
