Cruz Situation: Eli Manning Hoping for Positive Outcome

Eli Manning is on a radio blitz this morning, appearing on WFAN’s Boomer and Carton and ESPN’s Mike and Mike In The Morning.

The question of Victor Cruz came up in both interviews, of course.

“I do,” Manning said, when asked if Cruz will be a Giant in 2013. “I think that’s what I have to and want to believe.”

“Hopefully [Cruz] will be with the Giants, but it’s a little uncertain now,” he told ESPN.

As stated several times by us and others, the deadline for Cruz to put his name on an offer sheet is April 19. The genesis of that offer has yet to materialize.  Since Victor is signed to a first-round tender, it was intially thought the two teams with multiple first round selections (St.Louis and Minnesota) would contemplate offers. In recent days, those teams have made other moves that make a play for Cruz unlikely.

Right now, there aren’t a whole lot of teams willing to add a high-priced player at the expense of a first-round pick. And…..if anyone is, the Giants have the right to match. The odds are with Cruz stating with the Giants for at least one more season, and hopefully for many years to come.
