Thanksgiving Morning Report: All Aboard for the Six-Game Season
John Fennelly , Executive Editor
The Giants will convene early today and then break for Thanksgiving dinner with their families. With a late game this week, the bulk of the practicing has been pushed to Friday. The team is on a two-game losing streak and there have been rumblings of overconfidence and complacency. Tom Coughlin downplayed that analysis as quickly as is was tabled. He was asked what motivation he will draw on this week to stoke the fire under his team:
“The fact that we are coming off of a bye clinging to a very small lead in our division and have to win football games and the fact that it is a six-game schedule for us now. One game at a time for six weeks, everything we’ve got, full speed ahead, prove the quality of our football team. We’re, quite frankly and rightfully so…I’m not saying that it isn’t the way it should be, but I’m really tired about answering all the questions about what’s wrong and I’d rather we play a game and play it well and answer the questions that way.”
Yesterday, the team was out on the field almost intact. RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), WR Domenik Hixon (ankle), DT Linval Joseph (knee) did not practice. Bradshaw will probably go tomorrow. Hixon will most likely sit this week out and Joseph was held out due to a recurring knee issue.
S Kenny Phillips (knee), LB Keith Rivers (calf, knee), LB Jacquian Williams (knee) were all limited. The team will decide by Friday if each is ready to return to the lineup.
C David Baas (ankle, elbow), S Tyler Sash (ankle), G Chris Snee (ankle) all practiced in full.
For the Packers, CB Sam Shields (ankle), CB Charles Woodson (collarbone) are OUT for this week’s game. LB Clay Matthews (hamstring), LB Vic So’oto (illness) did not practice. Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy said Matthews was doubtful. He missed last week’s game in Detroit as well.
Tom Coughlin wasn’t buying it.
“He’s in,” the coach said when asked if the team was preparing for the Packers with and without Matthews. “That’s the plan. That’s the way we approach it. He’s in. I’ll tell you, the other kids that have played for him, they played pretty well.”
Limited in yesterday’s practice for GB: WR Donald Driver (thumb), WR Greg Jennings (groin, abdomen), RB John Kuhn (hamstring), LB Terrell Manning (shoulder), TE Andrew Quarless (knee), LB Erik Walden (ankle). DE B.J. Raji (ankle) practiced in full.
Jennings practiced for the frist time since being injured in September. McCarthy was cautiously optimistic about his status.
“That’s really what the week is for. Greg is chomping at the bit, but you obviously have the procedure.”
