NFL Preseason: Jaguars 32, Giants 31
The Giants dropped their preseason opener to a very game Jacksonville squad by the score of 32-31. Come down from the ledge. Don’t read too much into it.
Both teams played sloppily – muffing punts, missing tackles and forgetting rules. The replacement officials showed why the NFL never called them. They stunk, missing many infractions and getting scores of others incorrect.
In the end, Jacksonville had one more point than the Giants. The game doesn’t count and even if it did, it’s already been forgotten. The details will be forthcoming in spades, and word to the wise: don’t marry yourself to the numbers others are pummeling you with.
Some high points…
Martellus Bennett and Rueben Randle both caught TD passes. So did WR Isaiah Stanback, who is opening eyes with his hustle.
Rookie RB David Wilson looked impressive, carrying for big gains one minute, but getting tripped up at the line the next. He reminds me of a thicker Barry Sanders. There, I said it.
Other stuff
The Giants’ defensive front gets QB pressure no matter who is on the field, but continues to get beat badly on the ground.
Prince Amukamara got beat for a TD by Cecil Shorts, then returned the favor shortly after by stripping Shorts of the football.
David Carr (2 TD passes) is better than Tim Tebow
MORE TO COME
