Injuries have surely taken their toll on the Giants thus far this summer and perhaps the worst is behind them. Today, two high draft picks the team needs to start producing – CB Prince Amukamara and DT Marvin Austin – hope to make their season debuts Sunday against the Bucs. They were both out on the field working today.

For Austin, it will be his first game as a Giant after missing last week and his entire rookie season due to injury. Head coach Tom Coughlin hopes to finally have the highly-touted DT on the field, but is cautiously optimistic.

“We’ll see,” Coughlin said when asked if Austin would dress this week. “I think how he comes back tomorrow, we’ll know a little better.”

Amukamara has also been besieged by injury. He missed the first half of the season last year with a broken foot and last week’s game with a sprained ankle. Coughlin filled in on his status:

“It’s early, it’s his first day to really come back and get some work. It’s just good to see him out there. I’m sure he’s going to have to work through some things.”

In other injury news, safety Kenny Phillips rested with a back issue and will resume practicing on Wednesday. OT Will Beatty (back) is coming along albeit slowly. Coughlin seemed pleased with his progress but would not commit to whether Beatty was ready to return to LT. CB Michael Coe (hamstring) is improving and plans to play Sunday.
