Keller Probably Won’t Get Tangled Up in Blue

Some reports on the net suggest that Jets FA TE Dustin Keller may be considering hooking up with the Giants. Not a far-fetched idea, but there isn’t much teeth to it.

Keller is currently testing the market, meeting with the Dolphins this week and leaving Miami without a deal. His asking price was apparently too high.

The recent rash of TE free agent signings have Keller seeing dollar signs. The Giants’ own Martellus Bennett garnered a four-year, $20 million deal from Chicago. Other mildly distinguished TEs scored big money as well. From PFT:

…there’s a difference between what the Dolphins want to pay, and what he wants.

The gulf between the tight end deals for Jared Cook (five years, $35.1 million) and Delanie Walker (four years, $17.5 million) is wide, though Keller deserves something much closer to Cook money. But Cook’s deal is so far beyond scale that it complicates things.

Cook has done less than Keller statistically in his career and the Titans did in fact overpay for him. Walker has only caught 40 passes over the past two seasons. Wondering what Rob Gronkowski would get if he was a UFA….

Keller should be worth at least what these guys are worth, but the Giants passed on Bennett, why would they pay Keller? Bennett is younger, a better blocker and legitimate red zone threat?
