Not many in this business can say they’ve been actively following this Cowboys-Giants thing as long as I have (45 years and counting). Maybe Joe Benigno, but he’s really a Jet guy.

The Giants have had the better of Jerry’s kids as of late (five of six; six of eight) but it wasn’t always that way….

When the Cowboys entered the NFL in 1960, the Giants were a power. From ’60-’63, the Giants held a 5-1-1 advantage. But once 1964 came, the Giants fell off the map. The Cowboys, under former Giants’ DC Tom Landry, became America’s team.

The Giants played the Cowboys twice a year from 1964-80 and managed to win only five times with one tie (a mark of 5-25-1). The Cowboys beat the Giants 12 straight times between 1974 and 1980, before the Giants eeked out 38-35 victory in November at the Meadowlands behind young Phil Simms’ three TD passes.

It was a breath of fresh air that day. Something to hang our hats on. Since then, the Giants are 32-30 vs Dallas. Now that’s more like it….the teams have played only once in the postseason (2007) with the Giants shocking the top-seeded ‘Boys, 21-17 en route to a SB championship.

Tonight, I see the Giants winning, 27-17, with some interesting defensive and special teams activity.
