Giants Thursday Morning News and Nuggets

John Fennelly , Executive Editor

There will be no practice today as the team heads down to Jacksonville for tomorrow night’s preseason opener vs the Jaguars. Head coach Tom Coughlin said the starters would play 15-18 snaps followed by the “twos”, who would get the majority of the work in the second and third quarters. The reserves will finish the game.

About a dozen players will not be available for the game due to injury. OT Will Beatty (back) will sit, although he is scheduled to begin practicing next week. LBs Jacquian Williams (hip) and LBs Michael Boley and Jake Muasau (hamstrings) will not participate, either. DT Rocky Bernard (an old knee injury flared up) and RB Da’Rel Scott (thigh) are also scratches.

Those players will be joined on the sidelines by DE Justin Trattou (ankle), Terrell Thomas (knee) and the four players still on PUP: DT Chris Canty, WR Hakeem Nicks, TE Travis Beckum and LB Clint Sintim.

Veteran OT Sean Locklear will most likely start for Beatty at LT, Domenik Hixon will start in Hakeem Nicks’ spot with Jerrel Jernigan or Ramses Barden as the third WR. It remains to be seen if Victor Cruz is moved into the slot or stays outside for now. The Giants will be taking a good look at rookie WR Rueben Randle early on as well.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw will get work, but expect to see a lot of DJ Ware. First-round pick David Wilson and Andre Brown will take over in the second quarter.

Martellus Bennett will make his Giant debut, but Bear Pascoe will also get reps at TE. The team uses two TEs in many formations…

On defense, Shaun Rogers and Marvin Austin will rotate in Bernard’s spot. Spencer Paysinger, who has been playing the Will LB all summer in Boley’s absence, will start there again tomorrow night. Prince Amukamara assumes the RCB starting role, but expect a host of others to be shuttling in and out all game.
