As Deadline Passes, No Franchise Tag For Giants
John Fennelly , Executive Editor
The Giants will once again not assign the franchise tag to any of their impending free agents. The 4pm deadline cam and went without the Blue making an announcement.
As expected, and as John Mara basically said, the Giants have apparently elected not to use the franchise player tag this year. #NYG—

It was bandied about the team may use the tag on TE Martellus Bennett or K Lawrence Tynes. It appears they will take their chances and bid to get them back in the open market.
The Giants will hope to get a hometown discount from Bennett, who the team took a chance on last March. Bennett produced and may now feel some loyalty towards the franchise that showed faith in his ability.
Tynes, if brought back, will have to fend off former Cowboy David Buehler, who was signed last month. Then there is Jake Rogers, who is both a punter and a placekicker, who was signed to a futures deal.
