There were rumors earlier today that Giants free agent TE Martellus Bennett was close to signing with the Chicago Bears. He confirmed the rumors a short time age via Twitter:

Michael C Wright of ESPN Chicago then reported the deal is done in principal…

Bennett said recently he wasn’t feeling the “love” from the Giants. It looks like it will stay that way. The Giants will now seek to pick up a TE cheap in free agency or possibly grab one in the draft.

They currently have four under contract: Bear Pascoe, Adrien Robinson, Larry Donnell and Jamie Childers. Robinson is the player the Giants hope will fulfill Jerry Reese’s prediction that he will become the “JPP of TEs”.
