Today’s Will Beatty (re)signing is being well received by Giant fans and critics alike. They needed to get him back and it’s no surprise they drove hard to the hoop here in February to do so before the FA period even saw the light of day.

They have an unsettled OL situation right now on the OL with vets Chris Snee, David Diehl and David Baas all coming back from surgeries and a glut of unproven youngsters vying for a shot at a roster spot.

Snee and his father-in-law may be pooh-poohing the retirement talk, but it’s legit. Hip surgery at this point of career is not easy to come back from and as encouraging as the chatter has been, we have to see him back at 100% before we buy into anything. Baas is no one’s favorite, but he’s going nowhere. Diehl may be going somewhere, but the Giants don’t want to pull the trigger on him until they get their ducks in a row.

Kevin Boothe looks like he’s headed to free agency (unless the Giants make something happen soon), and if that happens, they will probably lose him. Sean Locklear is another free agent, but he is coming off an ACL, so the team may take his temperature at some point.

The names James Brewer, Brandon Mosley, Selvish Capers, Jim Cordle, Matt McCants, Levy Adcock, Chris DeGeare, Stephen Goodin, Bryant Browning and Michael Jasper will all be bandied about for roster spots this offseason.

Brewer is the odd-on favorite to assume the RT spot, but he has played sparingly in his two seasons here and has not started a single game in the NFL.

Will the Giants be seeking help in the draft? Probably, but as our man Jimmy Kempski says, don’t count on one of the big talents falling into their laps…..

There are 5 legitimate studs along the OL in this draft: OTs Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher, and Lane Johnson, as well as OGs Chance Warmack and Jonathan Cooper. (Some teams are also reportedly looking at Cooper as a center). Will any of them last to the Cowboys at 18 or the Giants at 19? My guess is no. A look at the teams ahead of the Cowboys/Giants and whether it not it would be reasonable for them to draft an offensive lineman in the first round:

Jaguars: I would think no.
Raiders: Leaning toward no.
Eagles: Yes.
Lions: Yes.
Browns: No.
Cardinals: Hell yes.
Bills: Tackle, no. Guard, maybe.
Jets: Leaning toward no.
Titans: Yes.
Chargers: Yes.
Dolphins: Yes.
Buccaneers: No.
Panthers: Yes.
Saints: Yes.
Rams: Yes.
Steelers: No.

That’s a tough minefield to navigate through.
