Giants-Jags Postmortem Notes
13 players sat out of last night’s game due to either and injury or a physical issue. CB Terrell Thomas, OT Will Beatty, DT Rocky Bernard, LB Michael Boley, LB Jake Muasau, DE Justin Trattou, RB Da’Rel Scott, LB Jacquian Williams, DT Chris Canty, WR Hakeem Nicks, TE Travis Beckum and LB Clint Sintim were all expected to sit out.
WRs Domenik Hixon (hamstring) and David Douglas (quad) were late scratches. Ramses Barden started in place of Hixon. Douglas, who many had hoped to see after creating a stir at camp, was spelled by the group of other WR hopefuls.
Rookie Rueben Randle had two receptions; a 21-yarder and a six-yard pass from Ryan Perrilloux in the end zone. UDFA Julian Talley had two receptions for 22 yards and Isaiah Stanback made the play of the night reeling in a David Carr pass with one hand in the right corner of the end zone.
Jerrel Jernigan had no receptions on two chances. Barden had one catch for 14 yards. Free-agent TE Martellus Bennett had three receptions for 27 yards, including a 12-yard TD strike from Carr.
Jernigan split the punt return duties with rookie DB Jayron Hosley. Neither distinguished themselves and both lost fumbles deep in Giant territory that led to 10 points for the Jaguars. It’s early.
Jernigan was also on kick returns, but it was rookie RB David Wilson that made his mark with returns of 28 and 48 yards.
Wilson rushed seven times for 43 yards with a long of 26. DJ Ware averaged six yards per attempt and scored from two yards out in the first quarter.
Eli Manning started the game at QB and went 4-8 for 60 yards. Carr went 6-10 for 48 yds and 2 TDs. Perrilloux finished the game 6-7 for 59 yds and TD. No picks for anyone.
K Lawrence Tynes made his only FG attempt, a 34-yarder in the first half. P Steve Weatherford averaged 43.3 yards on six punts with two inside the 20 and a touchback.
LB Spencer Paysinger, who did not start in place of Michael Boley (Keith Rivers did) led the Giants’ defense with 6 total tackles. S Will Hill had four solos. Backup DT Dwayne Hendricks recorded two sacks. Adrian Tracy, Craig Marshall, Matt Broha and Hosley also had sacks. Tracy and Prince Amukamara both forced fumbles. The Giants had no INTs.
Sean Locklear started at LT for Will Beatty. The Giants opened with a two TE set (Bennett and Bear Pascoe) and only two WRs: Barden and Victor Cruz. Ahmad Bradshaw started at setback. On defense. Shaun Rogers started at DT in place of Bernard. Prince started at RCB.
