Trying to Unravel the Confusing Final Minute of Sunday’s Game

Many have been asking this question: How were the Cowboys able to run three plays in the final ten seconds of Sunday’s game?

Tom Coughlin himself has been left to wonder……”I don’t have any answer for you, other than the fact that they had two plays in the end zone that are going to take more than four seconds apiece. I don’t have any other formula than that. You have to speculate on the rest of that……Then there’s unmentioned yesterday, the longest 10 seconds I’ve ever been around. They got three plays in 10 seconds. Two of which went to the end zone. Seems like a little much to me. We’ll have to see if we can get some kind of response from the league on that.”

Maybe the real question should be: How can a team run 9 plays in 44 seconds? Well, eight of those plays were passes. The other was a spike to stop the clock. Dallas managed the time perfectly….or did they?

2-10-NYG 27 (:01) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass incomplete deep middle to J.Witten. Game over.

I re-watched the the final two possessions of this game. The Bradshaw run on third and three from the Giants’ 24 was marked down at the 26. The Giants punted. If you have NFL Rewind, go look at that play.

Bradshaw never touches the ground. He is brought down with LB Ernie Sims’ body underneath him and thrusts the ball forward over the yellow line on the screen. On the broadcast, Troy Aikman is making a point about the Giants’ comebacks, so PBP man Thom Brenneman does not bother to interrupt him to call the play. The Giants’ lineman are all pointing “first down”, but the officials gave the Giants a bad spot.  The Giants’ bench did not argue or plead.  They should have. FOX also does not show any replays.

WHY NOT?  What was the call? Down by contact? No. Foward progress stopped? Not until after he punched the ball forward. This play a) should have been reviewed and b) FOX should have at least showed us a replay.

Anyone have any answers. We don’t and no one’s talking.
