NFL Preseason: Giants Fall to Bears, 20-17
The Giants’ first stringers did their job. They outplayed the Bears’ starters head-to-head in the first half and went into the tunnel ahead by ten, 17-7. Mission accomplished. The Bears decided to keep their starters in a bit longer before giving way to the reserves, dominating the second half en route to a 20-17 win.
CB Prince Amukamara left the field via cart in the first half with a lower leg injury. X-rays revealed no breaks, but medical personnel is calling it a “high ankle sprain”, which could keep Prince out anywhere between 3-6 weeks.
Rookie RB David Wilson had a productive first half in place of Ahmad Bradshaw, rushing for 49 yards and receiving for 26 more. WR Ramses Barden came to life after four years of dormancy, catching three passes for 46 yards and a TD.
On offense, the loser of the night was WR Jerrel Jernigan, who did not receive a pass nor get an opportunity to return a kick. WR David Douglas was used in his place.
On defense, the Bears picked on Amukamara’s replacement – Bruce Johnson – burning him for two TDs.
The Giants will be back in action next Wednesday, closing out the preseason here against the Patriots.
