Osi Umenyiora: Trent Richardson, try and get the ‘candy’
Last week, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora said in an interview on Sunday Night Football he was ending his Twitter feud with Eagles running back LeSean McCoy.
Apparently, he had another running back to tease in mind.
Cleveland rookie Trent Richardson told reporters he was not afraid of the Giants’ D and he was confident he would be able to have success on them come Sunday.
He said this to the Associated Press:
“We have to run some outside zone and really need to cover number 90 (Jason Pierre-Paul) as much as we can, and big (Jason) Tuck,” Richardson said. “I think that if we cover the edges and run hard, not doing all this juking and that, one move and go, I think we can have some success in the running game.”
When Umenyiora got wind of Richardson’s comments, however, the taunting began.
I guess we can label Umenyiora as Willy Wonka, because hes’ extending Richardson an invitation to get some candy.
“If (Trent) looks on tape and he thinks he sees some candy, come try and get it,” Umenyiora said Friday.
Big Blue owns the 22nd-ranked rush defense, allowing 118 yards per game. Richardson has 222 yards on the season, ranked 21st in the league and fourth behind fellow rookies Alfred Morris, Doug Martin and Robert Griffin III.
The match-up is now set. Umenyiora-Richardson, Round 1, Sunday. Be there.
