Canty Disappointed in Decision to Place Him on PUP

Giants’ DT Chris Canty felt he was making progress after undergoing microfracture surgery on his knee after the Super Bowl last season. He believed all summer that he would be ready for the regular season opener Sept 5 vs Dallas.

But, with that game only eight days away and Canty yet to begin practicing, the Giants elected to place Canty on PUP, effectively wiping out the first half of his season.

“We sort of expected that to be the case,” Tom Coughlin said of the decision. “We dealt with the thought of how fast he ought to come back, and it’s better for the player and team as well that he has this extra time?”
