The Giants placed 2nd-round tenders on S Stevie Brown and RB Andre Brown today, making sure they stay Giants for at least one more season. RB Ryan Torain was not tendered, making him eligible to become a UFA tomorrow at 4pm.

Stevie Brown, who played linebacker at Michigan, was a revelation in place of injured Kenny Phillips last season, recording 76 tackles, eight interceptions, and two forced fumbles across 16 games, starting 11. Phillips is a free agent and unlikely to return, making Brown the obvious candidate to replace him full time. He will be paid approx $2.02 million this season.

Andre Brown will be due $2.02 million once he signs on the dotted line. It’s a fair price for a player expected to open the season as the Giants’ short-yardage and goal-line back. In a perfect world for the G-Men, Brown would settle in as a complementary player as David Wilson puts a grip on feature duties.

No surprises here. Both Browns are part of the Giants’ future plans. Torain can be signed back if needed at a reasonable price, which would likely be the minimum for a 4th year player ($715k).

Depending on how each player performs, the Giants have some time and can weigh on whether to renegotiate or offer a longer term deals. It is highly unlikely either Brown will receive any outside offers.
