Bargain-Hunting Giants Waiting For the Market to Flatten Out

John Fennelly , Executive Editor

Why is everyone so surprised the Giants are making small. seemingly insignificant signings thus far in free agency?

They have no cap room to sign a big time FA. They don’t even have the cap space to sign a middle-of-the-road FA.

Sorry to bust everyone’s bubble, but all of these bloggers putting out pieces about the Giants signing Karlos Dansby or any other FA that is demanding big bucks, are simply pipe dreaming. It ain’t happening….

They are in bargain-hunter mode right now. They are waiting for the market to come to them. That could be as late as June or July, by the way.

Whatever cap room the Giants do have – or can create – is being reserved for re-signing Kevin Boothe or going towards matching any offer sheet Victor Cruz may sign.

So, that means the Giants will probably not make any moves until after the RFA offer sheet deadline of April 19. Until then, if you want to play for the veteran minimum (or somewhere close to it) the Giants can sign you.

If not, have a nice day and maybe we’ll see you this summer if you haven’t found work by then….
