Chris Canty Activated Off PUP List

Giants’ defensive tackle Chris Canty was activated from the PUP list today in anticipation of tomorrow’s game against the Washington Redskins.
As a corresponding move, the team placed running back Da’ Rel Scott on injured reserve.
With Rocky Bernard still out with a quadriceps injury, Canty’s return comes at an opportune time. Rookie Marcus Kuhn has played well in Canty’s absence, but maybe the veteran Canty will stabilize a defensive line coming off a good week.
Even with Canty’s return, don’t expect him to play every single down of every single defensive series. Perry Fewell may pick and choose where he inserts Canty to let him get his feet back under him after missing the first six weeks.
Tom Coughlin remarked earlier this week – Canty’s first week of practice – that he was unsure how he would handle the situation but that Canty was in outstanding physical shape.
The Giants will still have the option of playing Jason Pierre-Paul at defensive tackle and Matthias Kiwanuka at defensive end – a combination that worked well last week against the 49ers.
Even so, Canty is a good run-stopper, and between Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris running the ball for the Skins, the Giants’ D-line needs to be up to the challenge.
Big No. 99 will be excited to get back on the field, and hopefully his presence up front will contribute to a Big Blue victory.
